Android Powered ICD Gemini Tablet Trumps

Engadget’s Vlad Savov just announced a new Android tablet called Gemini by ICD (Innovative Converged Devices), seemingly out of nowhere – Google searches do not bring up anything but Engadget’s own post – it looks like they have an exclusive here. I hate using the term “###### killer”, so I will not be calling it an iPad killer. However, it is going to give Apple a run for its money.

Gemini has beautiful 11.2″ screen, compared to iPad’s 9.7″ – a whole 1.5″ larger diagonally. This gives us 31 square inches of extra viewing…

LG unleashes first Snapdragon phone with a keyboard

With all the launch hype for the HTC Desire and Google Nexus one going on this 100330_4bb183cc6003a-540x324week, I am happy to see that the other manufacturers are not giving up the ghost and are starting to chase.

LG is looking to be the first company off the starting line with the first Keyboard slider built on top for the blisteringly fast Snapdragon processor( the same processor in the Nexus One and HTC Desire). In addition the phone appears to be sporting a digital TV tuner and support for HD video via its beautiful AMOLED screen which are both great features to add, providing that the battery life doesn’t disintegrate as a result.

The phone seems to be a good knock off of the features included in the Motorola Milestone, down to the 4 level keyboard and touch pad although bolstered with more juice in the engine. The phone seems to be sporting LGs customised UI on top of Android 2.1 so hopefully this means that other older LG devices will see the Android 2.1 come through fairly soon.

Overall a good device and a great addition to the line up, however hopefully it won’t arrive too late to the android party to have any impact- time will tell.

Thanks to Electricpig for the headsup

Dell Streak Headed to Rogers Early November

The Dell Streak recently made its North American debut on AT&T in the US, but this leaked slide from Rogers is indicating that it’s only a matter of time before the tablet/phone is available for the Canadian carrier.
It shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise, as the Streak’s 850MHz 3G radio bands have already led to some northern neighbors snatching up AT&T’s device and unlocking them for the Rogers network. According to the leak dummy units of the device will arrive in late October to be kept under lock and key until the actual Streak launches in early November. Pricing isn’t mentioned.

Motorola fesses up to buggy Froyo build on Droid X

Motorola has come clean in their support forums today to some problems that have arisen with the current build of Froyo for the Droid X. Their specific comments on several of the most frequent complaints are copied below. Stuck on Moto logo after reboot – this was tough on a very few owners. Sorry about that. A fix has been developed for this and should eliminate the problem. It will be distributed in a future software release. If you are still experiencing this issue, click here . Random rebooting – while there always seem to be new conditions that can cause an electronic device to panic, we do have improvements coming that address and eliminate identified panic states. They will be distributed in a future software release. WiFi connection and stability – improvements in WiFi have been developed, to address several problem areas. They will be distributed in a future software release. Battery Manager “force close” errors – under some circumstances, pressing the battery icon under Menu > Settings > Battery Manager results in a forced close error. A fix has been developed for this and should eliminate the problem. It will be distributed in a future software release. Media won’t play – includes “sorry the player does not support this type of audio file,” custom ringtone stop working, video won’t play, etc. A reboot will restore full media function, but not permanently. We believe we have identified the cause of these errors. A fix has been developed for this and should eliminate the problem. It will be distributed in a future software release. Music files cutting off the final four seconds or so – a solution has been developed. It will be distributed in a future software release. Unfortunately they do not have a specific timeline for when an update to address some or all of these issues will be coming, but they are working on it and promise to update with new information when it is available. It’s good to see Motorola owning up to this rather than just burying their heads in the sand until they have a fix, but here’s hoping we see the update soon. I have had a few random reboots, but the major problem for me since the Froyo update has been my WiFi connectivity. Motorola is stressing that these issues are only being experienced by a limited number of users so I’d be curious to hear how many of our Droid X users have seen any of the above on their device.
